RootsTech 2015 Conference
We found the exhibits, learning centers, talks and presentations and entertainment amazing. We loved every minute of the experience. We learned a treasure house of information on how to improve virtually every aspect of the journey of recording our personal stories to finding ancestors and discovering something about their lives. We even discovered ways of finding out if we may be related to a host of famous persons.
Guidance given by Church leaders for youth and adults along with amazing family experiences of keynote speakers, such as Donny Osmond and Laura Bush, former first lady, has further inspired interest in family history.
Change In Family History Research Is Here To Stay
The spirit of the RootsTech Conference was all about current technologies, how to use them and what's coming. The amount of information is overwhelming, but RoadMap will give you a guide focusing on the more important websites and tools that are currently having a huge impact on research results. Family history research is totally different today. We may watch with awe as to what's coming next.
Family history research has dramatically changed in just the last two years. This has come about for two reasons. First, we now have an expanded indexed and searchable database of names and historical records available free online because of collaborative agreements of familysearch.org, owned by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, with other family history websites that also have exceptionally large and relevant databases. Second, technological advancements have now provided the tools in search engines and applications that allow for effective searching of website-specific historical records and for synchronization ability between family tree databases. Finding names of ancestors has never been so easy and people of all ages from the youth to the elderly are finding joy in family history. People are finding that these tools bring success and are easy to use.
Discovering Our Ancestors Names and Stories
Many of the exhibiting booths at RootsTech 2015 offered opportunity to discover your ancestors, write and preserve their stories and photos--starting with your own, and to find out something of what it was like to live at the time they lived. Discovery Center was a very popular area where FamilySearch exhibited technologies where you could use "Relative Finder" to see if related to famous people or any royalty in your lines, try "Rootsmapper" to trace your ancestral flow to America from Europe or elsewhere, and other technologies such as "Replace a Face" or "Record a Conversation".
A Part Of Our Ancestors Live On Through Us
Discovering names and the stories of our deceased relatives is exciting because without our ancestors we would not be here and because we are here they are literally a part of us. Much of our looks, our personalities, our talents, our characters and everything with which we can characterize ourselves has come from our ancestors. As we come to know our ancestors we come to know more about ourselves.
